Yonah Schimmel’s 110th Anniversary

New York— February 21, 2020Yonah Schimmel Knish Bakery is proud to announce the celebration of our 110th anniversary on East Houston Street on the Lower East Side of New York.

A landmark in both the Jewish Community and in the City of New York, Yonah Schimmel brought the knish to America from Eastern Europe and started selling them from a pushcart in 1890 before finally opening the shop at 137 East Houston Street that still bears his name. Current owners, all relatives of Yonah, have kept traditions and the original recipes alive while introducing new variations on centuries old dishes.

In honor of this very special occasion, we’ll be pricing our potato knishes at $1.10 for the first 110 sold that day.

Located on East Houston Street since 1910, Yonah Schimmel’s Knishes is the leader gourmet kosher soul food. In addition to knishes, Yonah Schimmel makes kugel, kasha varnishkes, borscht and the best egg creams in New York City. Yonah Schimmel’s Knishes are available in store at 137 East Houston Street or online for shipping nationwide at Goldbelly.com.

“There’s Yonah Schimmel and then there’s everybody else,” said Jerry O’Connell, movie, stage and tv star.
